SONG OF THE WEEK: ICONA POP “I Love It” [Numero 58]

Cinquantottesimo ”numero” della mia nuova rubrica SONG OF THE WEEK, consigli personali sui nuovi pezzi che ritengo interessanti o,quanto meno,degni di nota rispetto ad altri nel mondo del mainstream musicale. Non tutto il commerciale è da buttare,e spero che con questa rubrica lo possa dimostrare.

Per questa settimana ho scelto “I Love It”, singolo di debutto mainstream del duo synthpop svedese Icona Pop , influenzate da uno stile electro house, punk ed indie pop.  

 

Da quando il duo ha preso la strada più mainstream il duo si è trasferito lavora e si sposta tra Los Angeles e New York, punte massime della produzione musicale mondiale. Il singolo è tratto dal cd ominimo  “Icona Pop”e nel 2012 il singolo è apparso in svariati programmi, in particolare in un episodio dell’acclamatissima serie tv “Girls”.

Il pezzo è accattivante, con un sound incredibile, impossibile resistergli. Complice un drink e anche solo un amico/un’amica e puo’ diventare un vero inno.

Il testo fa riferimento alla rottura di un rapporto che, essenzialmente, è di liberazione da un peso. É un misto di rabbia per una persona difficile da accontentare ed un po’ più grande, probabilmente si tratta di un rapporto con una persona di due decadi in più e le diversita’ che possono intercorrere in fasce d’eta’ cosi distanziate.

La vera forza della canzone, comunque, è questo suo electro pop impreziosito da due voci un po’ indie rock, che danno a questo superpop un’accezione completamente diversa e nuova. Decisamente interessante.

Attualmente il gruppo è in tour con i gruppi Passion Pit e Matt & Kim, altrettanto interessanti, e “I Love It” sta iniziando ad espandersi sempre di più nelle discoteche e nelle radio mondiali. Fin’ora ha conquistato la posizione #2 nella madrepatria Svezia, al #3 di Austria, Australia e Germania al numero #13 in Olanda ed è entrata anche al #68 in USA, un risultato decisamente positivo ed importante per un’artista indie pop europeo.

This week i’ve chosen “I Love It”, mainstream debut single of the synthpop,electro house and punk pop swedish duo Icona Pop.

The duo, since the release of this single, moved on in Los Angeles and New York,  the heart of music’s production of the world, more or less. The single is taken from Icona Pop and in 2012 it appeared in some shows, including the critically acclaimed hit tv series “Girls”.

The tune is edgy pop, incredibly strong sounding and impossible to resist. With the complicity of drink and friends, this could be a great hymn for young party boys and girls, and maybe not only.

The lyrics are referred to the broke up of a relationship that’s coming to a death point, and the separation is not much of an anxiety, the opposite, instead a truly blessing to get rid of it. It’s a cocktail of anger for someone who asks more than can give, hard to please, and probably deals with the relationship between two people who have around 20 years between each other, facing the differences that can happen between two people with such a gap of ages.

The true strenght of this song, however, is its electro pop sensation empowered by two indie rock voices, which give  to this superpop tune a completely different meaning, turning it into a new kind of “pop”…an icona pop, maybe 🙂

So interesting.

The duo is currently touring with bands Passion Pit and Matt & Kim, and “I Love It” it’s climbing charts all over the world, with airplay and downloads. Til now the tune has notched #2 in hometown Sweden,#3 di Austria, Australia and Germany, #13 in Netherlands and #68 in USA, a very good result, importanto for an indie pop european act.
