SONG OF THE WEEK: BONNIE TYLER “Believe In Me” [Numero 68]
*ABOUT*
ITALIANO
ENGLISH
This week i’ve chosen “Believe In Me”, lead single from Bonnie Tyler’s 17th album, coming a long 8 years since last album “Wings”, published in 2005.
“Rocks and Honey”, title of the new album, as well as “Believe In Me” presents a country style with a modern edge and the reason why i’ve chosen this track (in addition to my interest in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest’s Tunes) it’s because of the recognizable Bonnie’s touch, always evergreen, far away from electronic or other beats and sounds that are very strong now, and well heard at this year ESC too.
Not that i’m against this music, last week i’ve chosen Margaret Berger’s “I Feed You My Love” who’s absolutely a child of this music movement, but for artists like Bonnie Tyler it’s amazing to see how they can grow and give a new life to their own, original music style. This attitude sometimes makes a great artist, when the sound stand still but, at the same time, it’s able to renew itself.
“Believe in Me” is the sweetest side of that “Total Eclipse of the Heart”, Bonnie Tyler’s quintessence, and shows a great maturity in themes and meanings, and demonstrates how still strong is Tyler’s voice.
A song that everybody knew it wouldn’t win the contest, not as impactful as others, but meets critical acclaim and my appreciation, because of its elegance and sweetness, stronger than ever, accompained by the still magical, scratched and profound voice Bonnie has.
“Believe In Me” peaked at number 93 and “Rocks and Honey” at number #52 in the UK official charts.
*TESTO / LYRICS*
You say you don’t believe in signs from up above
And you laugh at the thought of putting your faith in stuff like love
You never see the rainbow, you just curse the rain, you say
You wanna believe but it’s just not worth the pain today
But that’s all fine if that’s how you want it to be
But if you’re feeling alone and afraid and you can’t breathe
Believe in me, yeah
Believe in me, yeah
Believe in the way I look at you and stand beside you
The way I speak the truth, I’d never lie to you
If you’d just believe in the things that your eyes can’t see
Believe in me
You come and you go and there’s never no compromise, that’s why
The seconds and the minutes of your life go crawling by
But that’s all fine if that’s how you want it to be
But if you’re feeling alone and afraid and you can’t breathe
Believe in me, yeah
Believe in the way I look at you and stand beside you
The way I speak the truth, I’d never lie to you
If you’d just believe in the things that your eyes can’t see
Believe in me
What ya gonna do when your ship is sinking?
And you’re crying out for help and just the seagulls listening
In the dark of the night, in the middle of the fight
When you’re reaching out for something and there’s nothing
Believe in me, yeah
Believe in the way I look at you and stand beside you
The way I speak the truth, I’d never lie to you
If you’d just believe in the things that your eyes can’t see
Believe in me
