Per questa settimana ho scelto “No Enemiesz” il nuovo singolo della 25enne canadese Kiesza, diventata celebre per la hit single “Hideaway” , che ha spopolato in UK e Italia, soprattutto.
“No Enemiesz” è fatto della stessa pasta di “Hideaway”, edm con fortissime influenze 90s, dalla vocalità al sound, con un fortissimo videoclip improntato su passi di danza ma, stavolta, in compagnia di oggetti inanimati che, dalla mano di Kiesza, prendono vita e si trasformano in ballerini che fanno da backup dancer alla cantante.
Il pezzo è un inno allo stare assieme, all’apprezzarsi, a non fermarsi al lato superficiale della conoscenza di qualcuno e riuscire ad avere un rapporto ed essere “non più nemici”. Lyrics semplici ma significative, in un mondo dove la gente è nemica della stessa gente, con la filosofia del “cane mangia cane”, dove l’apatia e la freddezza dei rapporti vincono su tutto.
“No Enemiesz” è disponibile per il download , come il disco dal quale è estratto (ed anche in formato cd) e spero vivamente che questo pezzo vada in rotazione quanto “Hideaway”.
Il singolo è tratto dall’album di debutto di Kiesza, “Sound of A Woman”, che consiglio vivamente. Vi allego l’articolo che ho pubblicato al proposito.

For this week i’ve chosen “”No Enemiesz” , new single from 25 year old red-head Canadian singer Kiesza, most famous for her recent hit “Hideaway” , especially in the UK and Italy.
“No Enemiesz” is made up of the same reasons that made up “Hideaway”, the hit single it is: edm with A LOT of 90s influences all around , from vocals to sound, with a great videoclip all about dance routines and, this time around, with a string of inanimated objects that Kiesza brings to life that turn into backup dancers! A GREAT video.
“No Enemiesz” is about being together with no fights-no feuds, appreciate ourselves and knowing someone a little bit more, being “no enemies”, in fact. Simple but meaningful lyrics, especially nowadays, all based on the “dog eat dog” phylosophy, with humans being the more and more apathic day by day.
“No Enemiesz” is available on Itunes, like her first album (on CD format too) and i really hope it gets a good share of “Hideaway” ‘s popularity.
This single is taken from Kiesza’s debut album “Sound of A Woman”, that i strongly recommend!

Per questa settimana ho scelto “Optional”, il nuovo singolo della pop rocker italiana Antonella Lo Coco.
Antonella arrivò 3a nella 5a edizione di X FACTOR ITALIA nel 2012 e da allora non si è mai fermata : ha pubblicato il suo primo EP “Cuore Scoppiato”, il suo primo album “Geisha” , l’EP “LoverCover” e ora sta lavorando a nuova musica, di cui “Optional” fa parte.
Il brano vede la produzione di Paolo Guerra per l’etichetta Agidi, con la produzione artistica di Charlie Rapino con la collaborazione con Dimitri Tikovoi (produttore di artisti come Placebo, Goldfrapp e Charli XCX) e i londinesi The Electric. Di “Optional” sono stati realizzati anche due remix (extended e radio edit) firmati da Tommy Vee, Mauro Ferrucci e Keller.
Antonella ha detto ai suoi fans che , tramite “Optional” ha voluto trasmettere carica, passione, amore, determinazione e costanza e il brano parla di puntare all’obiettivo che si è deciso e non permettete a nessuno di calpestare i propri sogni.
Per quanto mi riguarda , la Lo Coco rimane una fra le proposte più interessanti uscite da X FACTOR ITALIA, dal look “alla maschiaccio” ma al contempo molto sexy ,fashion e curato alla splendida potente e pulita voce, al sound, quel pop rock un po’ dimenticato che invece, personalmente, trovo irresistibile e sempre trascinante.
Questo optional…non è un optional!

Per questa settimana , ho scelto “Shake It Off” il singolo del debutto pop di Taylor Swift. Si! Dopo 8 anni di country, Taylor si scrolla di dosso l’etichetta contry per muoversi verso una dimensione più “allegra”, diciamo, con questo primo divertentissimo singolo.
“Shake It Off” è stata criticata per essere un pezzo generico, molto simile ad altri pezzi di altre popstars del panorama attuale, una triste dipartita dai sui pezzi precedenti, decisamente più maturi ed impegnati. Ma seriamente? Secondo me invece il pezzo è semplicemente una naturale conseguenza al precedente capitolo musicale della Swift.
Il suo 4^album “Red”, pubblicato nel Novembre 2014, era gia’ ampiamente influenzato dal pop (tutti i singoli estratti erano praticamente pop!) e questo è semplicemente un nuovo step. In tutto ciò spero solo che la Swift non abbandoni le sue magnifiche ballads, perché sarebbe un gran peccato. NON FARE DANCE/EDM O TI PICCHIO.
“Shake It Off” parla di come scrollarsi i pregiudizi di dosso e ,sostanzialmente, fregarsene di quello che dice la gente perché in ogni caso, chiunque continuerà a criticarti e tenerti sotto la lente d’ingradimento anche se tenti di essere il migliore di tutti. Il video ufficiale, molto carino, mostra ancora una volta il lato divertente e imbranato della Swift, cosa che amo molto in una popstar, il prendersi in giro “con filosofia”.
“Shake it Off” in sole 3 settimane ha venduto oltre 1 milione di copie in USA (#1).

For this week i’ve chosen “Shake It Off” , the pop-debut single from superstar Taylor Swift. Yes! After 8 country-years our Taylor “shakes off” her country roots from her to produce a highly enjoyable , funny and cheerful single.
“Shake It Off” has been criticized for being like many other singles , pop singles, and a sad departure from her previous (way “meaningful”) efforts. To me IT WAS HIGHLY ANTICIPATED.
Swift released her very lucky 4th album “Red” in November 2012 and that album already shows off some pop-pier material (like all the singles released?) and this new chapter, called “1989” , is simply a natural step forward. In all of this i really hope she won’t completely forget her origins, cause Swift’s ballads are Amazing and very well written.
“Shake It Off” is about shaking off prejudices and DON’T GIVE A FUCK about everything, cause people we’ll keep on saying things, criticizing everything and everyone , no matter how good you are.
The official video is nice and shows another time the clumsy side of Taylor Swift, thing that i love in a popstar.
“Shake it Off” in just about 3 weeks sold over 1 million copies in USA (#1).

Per questa settimana , ho scelto “Ghost” il singolo di debutto dell’artista inglese Ella Henderson , 6a classificata nella 9a edizione di X FACTOR UK , che anticipa il suo disco “Chapter One”, in uscita il 22 Settembre.
“Ghost” è un brano power pop che parla di presenze/assenze, dolori e fantasmi di quei dolori , con un tono quasi dark per quanto sempre e comunque pop, ma di classe.
C’è un po’ di Leona Lewis, un po’ di Adele e sicuramente tanta bravura , sia come songwriter ( tutto il disco è composto da lei, e certi brani INTERAMENTE da lei) che come voce e questo dimostra che chi non vince un talent, se in gamba, può andare ugualmente lontano.
Il singolo è un successo , #1 in UK per 2 settimane e in pochi giorni ha già superato le 400,000 copie vendute ed è attualmente in top 10 e sta anche affacciandosi sul resto del mercato discografico europeo.

“Ghost” is a power pop song that deals with presences/absences, pain and phantoms of that painful feelings, with a dark tone but with a very pop package, a very classy pop package.
There’s a bit of Leona Lewis, a lot of Adele and certainly a lot of artistry , as songwriter ( all the album has been co-composed by her , with some songs to be completely written by her ) and her voice demonstrates that who doesn’t win a competition can dream and get a chance anyway.

Per questa settimana , ho scelto “eez-eh” il singolo di ritorno della UK indie rock band dei Kasabian.
Il pezzo ha un sound ed un ritornello che può diventare un piacevole tormento come lo erano diventati brani dei 90s come “Born Slippy” degli Underworld o “Song 2” dei Blur , entrambe band UK, perché possiede quell’effetto “rave” , anche come descritto dal magazine (molto critico,solitamente) NME.
“eez-eh” se ne frega della serietà e dei problemi del mondo attuale, e si comporta come farebbe un 17enne ribelle a cui gli si danno libertà, una canna in mano e musica. É un brano che ti trascina nella sua voglia di festeggiare e rock-azzeggiare senza sensi di colpa , puntando il dito contro “gli uomini sbagliati che hanno il potere, che fanno inacidire il proprio latte”.
Inoltre questo pezzo è una svolta per i Kasabian, che danno un’impronta molto più elettronica-pop al loro sound, che è sempre stato più indie/ricercato, più alternative rock comunque. Forse un ritorno alle atmosfere che li avevano lanciati 10 anni fa, nel 2004, col loro disco di debutto omonimo.
Il singolo è tratto dal loro 5^ disco di studio “48:13” (titolo riferito alla durata complessiva delle tracce) uscito da pochissimo e già #1 UK (quarto disco consecutivo della band a giungere in vetta nella loro patria).

For this week i’ve chosen “eez-eh” comeback single from the UK indie rock band Kasabian.
The song has a sound and chorus totally “rave” , as already written by magazine NME, that reminds me of that pleasant hammering songs that will never leave you like 90s anthems “Born Slippy” by Underworld or “Song 2” by Blur.
“eez-eh” nevermind about the issues the world has to deal with now , ignorant about everything that afflicts us today, and behaves like a 17 year old with full freedom , a joint and music to dance with. It’s a tune that drives you crazy and makes you wanna scream and rock all night without regrets. A pure guilty pleasure , in which you dance pointing the finger at “The wrong men have the power It’s turning my milk sour” .
This “eez-eh” is a new direction for Kasabian , more of a eletronic way than before , maybe rooting back to their origins of their self titled debut album back in 2004 , already 10 years ago.
The single is taken from their 5th studio album “48:13” (titled after the lenght of the tracks in the lp) , just released is already a UK #1 (4th consecutive album reaching the UK albums’ chart peak).

Per questa settimana ho scelto “Slave to the Rhythm” , estratto dal secondo disco post mortem di Micheal Jackson.
Ci sono dei miti che non si possono sostituire. Geni che non possono, non ancora, essere inglobati o ancora degnamente ereditati da nuove leve.
Lo stile, la voce, la capacità autoriale, la personalità, l’animo, il look di Michael Jackson sono TROPPO UNICI per poter fare a meno di lui e non desiderare che suoi pezzi mai pubblicati vengano, invece, resi noti.
C’è chi potrebbe criticare, dalla famiglia ai fans più accaniti o ai semplici scettici, perché se una persona è morta ,dicono, perché non lasciarla in pace? Ma forse non veniamo cresciuti con le gesta dei nostri antenati e di popolazioni a noi lontane per capire meglio il funzionamento della politica, dell’economia e la nostra stessa natura umana?
E , allo stesso tempo, non cresciamo con poesie , poemi , canzoni e contenuti di gente che ci ha lasciato anni, decenni, secoli orsono e non per questo valgono di meno o sono meno inebrianti?
“Slave to the Rhythm” (un brano esempio, perché poi quasi tutte le sue uscite postume sono davvero degne di nota) è un chiaro esempio di musica che non va tenuta nel cassetto e il videoclip ufficiale del brano, CRITICATISSIMO, merita , invece, i miei applausi.
Nel video che ha fatto scandalo, Michael Jackson canta e balla la sua canzone … in versione ologramma. Una trovata non originale ma, nel contesto , assolutamente geniale e che davvero ci fa capire che Michael è ancora insostituibile e che, anche a 5 anni dalla sua morte, la sua voce – il suo sound – il suo stile hanno ancora quell’unicità che pochi artisti possono vantare , sia per look che per voce, fra mille e mille altri.
“XScape” un album corto , pochi pezzi, ma grandi chicche e impossibile per me non dedicargli la sezione della rubrica di questa settimana.

This week i’ve chosen”Slave to the Rhythm” , taken from the 2nd post humous album by Micheal Jackson.
There are neverending myths , irreplaceable. Genious that can’t be replaced or found the same talent and impact on Young new artists so soon.
Style ,voice, writing skills, personality, soul, fashion looks of Micheal Jackson are just too unique to be put on a shelf and forget about them , and we can’t get enough of “new” music, those lost songs or still unreleased songs he worked on before death.
There gonna be people who will misjudge, and there are, family – core fans or simple critics , because usually it’s common to think about speculation. Why not leaving a dead rest in peace? But…Aren’t we grown up with our ancestors’ stories, phylosophers and great figures of the past to better understand politics, economy and , in the end, human nature?
And, at the same time, aren’t we grown up with poems, poetries, songs and contents of people who died a long long long time ago and not for this they’re not still meaningful and important , and marvellous, today?
“Slave to the Rhythm” (as an example song, because almost all of Jacko’s post mortem offering is very good) is a clear example of what i’ve just written and its videoclip , VERY CRITICISED, deserves a few lines too.
In this really particular clip we see Michael Jackson dancing and singing this song … as a hologram, with backup dancers and so on. Not an original thing but , in the way it has been done, really really interesting and very well realized. 5 years after his Death is still THE ONE and his voice – sound and so on are still one of the few impossible to be confused on radio or in the pictures when we think about an icon.
“XScape” is a short album with not very much songs, but those are great and it was impossible to me not to dedicate him this week’s “Song of the Week” (sorry for the pun).

Per questa settimana ho scelto “Hideaway” , il brano della giovane Canadese Kiesza.
Lei e il suo produttore, grandi amanti della dance anni ’90, hanno deciso di fondere la deep house e la minimal elettronica con le atmosfere circa 1993/1994 in una canzone decisamente interessante e davvero innovativa per quanto retrò. Il risultato è stato un successo: il singolo ,appena uscito, è balzato al #1 in UK con oltre 136,000 copie vendute e Youtube conta oltre 10,6 milioni di visualizzazioni!
Il video è molto urban, una coreografia che scaturisce durante una semplice camminata, con un look a metà strada fra innovazione e retrò , esattamente come il brano che rappresenta.
Come il pezzo parla di una scappatoia, di una persona che riesce a far fluttuare, questo pezzo è un piacere per le orecchie, che ti porta in un’altra dimensione. Presumo spunteranno fuori numerosi remix che lo trasformeranno ulteriormente in una club hit.
Il singolo contiene l’altro brano “No Enemiesz” e la cover dell’epica “What is Love” di Haddaway , uno degli inni dance anni ’90 in assoluto.

This week i’ve chosen “Hideaway” , debut single from Canadian artist Kiesza.
She and her producer , big lovers of the 90s dance music ( WHO DOESN’T?? ) , have decided to merge deep house and minimal electro music into the atmospheres of dance music around 1993/1994 , in a very interesting song and innovative, even if retro.
The result is a success: over 136.000 copies sold in first week to top the UK singles chart and over 10,6 views on Youtube as of now.
Videoclip is urban, with a choreography that comes naturally from a walk , with a look halfway between retro and innovation , exactly as the song is in itself.
As the lyrics speak about a”hideaway”, of someone who can give us this sensation , free our mind and make us walk in the clouds, the song is able to do the same thing, taking us to another dimension. I bet many remixes will soon be released and will give further strenght to this tune to make it a bigger club hit, all over the world.
The single includes another song, “No Enemiesz” and a cover of the epic “What is Love” , one of the biggest dance songs of the 90s owned by Haddaway.

Per questa settimana ho scelto “You & I” , il nuovo singolo di Anouk , probabilmente la più famosa e talentuosa cantante olandese del panorama attuale ,e degli ultimi 15 anni.
Il singolo non è , stranamente , incluso nel suo ultimo disco , il live album “Symphonica in Rosso” , 22 brani riarrangiati con un’orchestra di primissimo livello , subito andato al #1 in Olanda.
Pensate che con questo album Anouk ha all’attivo ben 10 dischi al #1 !! E l’ultimo album d’inediti “Sad Singalong Songs” , anch’esso #1, ha venduto oltre 50,000 copie in Olanda ( grande risultato per il paese ) e contiene “Birds” , brano presentato lo scorso anno all’Eurovision Song Contest.
Tornando a “You & I” , il mio amore per questa cantante si riconferma ad ogni uscita discografica. Scritta dalla stessa Anouk con Afrojack , dopo un ultimo album molto lento , introspettivo , duro e crudo , “You & I” è molto più pop e fresca ma non scontata , dopo tutto nulla di quello che fa lei lo è.
In attesa del quinto (proprio cosi!) figlio , Anouk è piena di gioia ed amore (stranamente , essendo artista molto cruda e profonda nei testi) ed è un piacere per un fan come me sentirla anche in queste vesti , felice e in grado d’insegnare a chi scrive canzoni d’amore di merda come si fa a scriverne una semplice e degna di potersi chiamare canzoni, con un sound e una voce unici e che rimarranno nel tempo.

The new single , strangely, isn’t included in her last album , the live album “Symphonica in Rosso” , 22 of her songs rearranged for the great orchestra , immediately gone straight to number 1 in Holland.
Anouk , with this album , scored her 10th number one album in her hometown country. Her last studio album “Sad Singalong Songs” , #1, sold 50,000 copies in her native country ( big result for Dutch charts ) and includes “Birds” , tune presented last year at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Getting back to “You & I” , my love for this genuine and truth but troubled and passionate artist , is growing bigger and bigger each time she releases something new. Written with Afrojack , after a very dramatic , sad and introspective album , “You & I” really feels like a rebirth . Pure pop , fresh , but not stupid and sugary meaningless.
Expecting her fifth (!!) child, Anouk is full of love and is a pleasure for me to see even her softer side, shown very rarely in her lyrics ,which are very strong and deep many times, full of regrets , anger , past stories and so on. And i hope she can contribute to teach people how to write and sing a beautiful pop love song, simple but beautiful, cause we really need it in a world of songs and voices that you can’t make a difference and remember the one to the other.

Per questa settimana ho scelto “Ti Porto A Cena Con Me” , il primo singolo estratto dal quarto album di studio di Giusy Ferreri ( quinto se si considera l’ep “Non Ti Scordar Di Me” col quale ha debuttato nel 2008 ) dal titolo “L’Attesa”, che uscirà il 25 Marzo 2014.
Il brano è stato portato al 64esimo Festival di Sanremo e non si è piazzato fra le prime 3 posizioni ( e non si sa quale sia la sua posizione finale ) ma secondo il mio umilissimo parere, data la musica e il testo , il brano avrebbe dovuto vincere DI GRAN LUNGA questo Festival e battersi con “Bagnati dal Sole” di Noemi e “Liberi o No” di Raphael Gualazzi ( ma possono anche essere gusti ).
Quello che sicuramente non è un gusto ma un fatto è la fattura raffinata e toccante del pezzo, ipnotica nella sua realtà e intensità.
“Ti porto a cena con me il tuo passato non è invitato” è probabilmente una delle frasi più belle del Festival di quest’anno , secondo il mio giudizio ( che potrebbe valere un cazzo ma è il mio blog, quindi qui CONTA ) e tocca un argomento che mai cadrà in prescrizione, ossia la voglia di ricominciare, che qui è affrontata con grande maestria nell’invitare la persona desiderata ad una cena dove i piatti saranno portate che , anziché pasta e pollo o pesce e patatine, portano volontò , voglia di ricostruire, e soprattutto di scordare e di darsi pace per gli errori commessi.
Perdonarsi. Perdonare l’altra persona. La forza e la dura realtà del dover ricominciare, cosa che a volte facciamo senza riuscirci davvero , andiamo solo avanti coi soliti rimorsi e dolori.
Come dice il pezzo “Se fosse contagiosa la felicità Adesso è fuori moda” , è vero, purtroppo in un mondo dove sei credibile solo se sei cinico e dove è troppo difficile sperare e credere davvero in cose positive, il brano della Ferreri è un gradevolissimo squarcio poetico che si apprezza di ascolto in ascolto sempre di più.
